Tryn is the oldest of 8 children in a very poor family. She was sent to work at a young age to try to help make ends meet. She went to work along with her mother as a cook in the kitchen of a wealthy family. Every day, she and her mother walked out of the poor neighborhood in which they lived and into the wealthy area of the city. The houses grew steadily larger on their walk to work until they finally arrived at their destination. They worked in the home of an aristocrat whose family became even more rich each generation, even though they did not appear to work for their wealth. Money had been in their family for centuries. Their last name alone commanded both fear and admiration.

Every day as Tryn made this walk with her mother, she wondered how it could be that her family and the others that lived in her neighborhood could work so hard and yet not have the luxuries that this family had. Every day as she walked, she increasingly resented this family and the divide between the rich and poor. She envied their many treasures: old coins, jewelry, crystal, everything in the house seemed to glitter. It was unfair. Where was the justice in the world? Why did the rich get richer while the poor just became poorer? Tryn remembered the words of Avandra: Luck favors the bold.

She began stealing as her way of creating justice in an unfair world. She stole from the corrupt, the cruel, the greedy, and anyone who called her short. She never took for her own personal gain or for anyone else’s gain for that matter. She only took their one prized possession. She tried to steal undetected, but over time she had her share of adventure and became a good fighter. She also had quite a collection of treasures that she had stolen over the years.

The wealthy in the city began to become suspicious as their prized possessions began to disappear. Tryn feared for what would happen to her family if she were caught. After a recent close call, she decided it was time to go stay with her aunt who lived in Duncastle. Duncastle was a small town, and definitely a change of pace. Tryn knew she would miss the adventure, the power she felt as she had her revenge, and all that glittered. She also knew that she would bring ruin to her family if she did not change her ways. She packed her things, said goodbye for now to her family, and prepared for the dull life that awaited her.
